The Curl is my first Barbie horse purchase after many years. He joined my herd almost by accident. I noticed an advertisement on olx (advertising portal on which I made maybe one purchase before) and watched it for several days. The price was very attractive and that's why I decided to take him.
Another reason why I decided to take an interest in it, is because it is Barbie's first foal, so very Vintage. His father is Midnight (black stallion) and his mother is Dallas - who looks practically the same as this baby. BTW, I always thought Dallas was a stallion, so I verified my knowledge and debunked the myth that all Barbie horses are female.
As you can see in the photos above, taken from the advertisement, the baby looked quite decent. The blanket was definitely "tired" of the time and there was no tether - a short "leash" on which Barbie could lead a foal. Originally, the toddler had a white brush and a pink ribbon to decorate the tail - which also were missing in this ad.
Dixie came to me on May 6, 2021 from Gdańsk (part of Tri-City, Poland). After unpacking, I made him a quick session in the bathroom before washing. It turned out that the upper part of the blanket had disappeared, I suspect it was due to washing. The pictures from the advertisement show that this part was crumbling. Well. In general, the baby was in very good condition, it did not require any special washing. However, I decided to refresh his mane and tail. Below you can see him right before bathing and combing, without halter and blanket.
My first impressions of dealing with Dixi were that it exceeded my expectations. The photos truly do not reflect its charm and the quality.
It appeared in trade in 1983, so today it is far over 30 years old, and it looks like new. The mane and tail are very soft and curled into permanent curls, even washing them did not ruin his hairstyle.
Loczek convinced me to horses from his era. If I ever have the opportunity, I will certainly take it and adopt his parents as well.
Below my Dixi, after refreshing on the spring paddock, I gave him a non-original pink ribbon to his tail:
Recent photos fully explain why his given name is
Curl.
